My documents disappeared. Where did they go?

If you don’t see your document in your documents list, don’t worry! One of these 3 steps will help you find it:

  1. More than likely your files are in a different Lucidpress account. Most often users will accidentally have more than one account with Lucidpress and forget which files were stored where. For example, john.james@gmail.com created a few documents but, when he came back, he accidentally signed into john@gmail.com and sees his docs list empty. Search your mail inbox for emails from Lucidpress to see what address you received our emails from; this is likely the account you should be logged into.
  2. Your files are constantly saved after every action in the editor and you can see the 'Saved' message to the right of the Menu bar. If you lose internet connectivity, we will notify you after ten minutes and, if it reconnects before then, we'll sync your file automatically.
  3. If neither of these options works, you can check your internet browsing history for the name of the file. Your browser will usually store the latest version of the document for you.

I've had a document completely disappear (it's not in the trash either) and I'm certain that I've only created one login. I see it in my browser's history, but it doesn't have a cached version of the document. I thought one of the great benefits of working in the cloud is the certainty that data won't be lost! Is there anything I can do?

My apologies – indeed, I'd created another account, and the document is there as expected... my bad!

I created a document long ago that I wanted to go back and edit today, but I couldn't find it anywhere, not even in the Trash! This is also the only account I have. I would check my browsing history, but I had it on another computer. I am 101% certain I didn't delete this document accidentally, but I think someone has! What should I do?

Hi there Levi. Thanks for posting in the Community and I'm sorry for the trouble. Documents are always automatically saved. If you are not able to check your browser history and only have one account, there's a chance that a poor internet connection caused the document not saving. If you are still unable to find your document, please let me know so I can try to investigate further!

Hi,

I had made a document about 6 months ago. Do they automatically delete after a while? It'd be amazing if I could get that back. I had a PDF file of it, but I need to edit it. My account is under jtatios@ccdelco.com

Hey Julie, documents should not disappear. Do you happen to know the name of the document? I can try searching that way because I'm not finding any documents under the account associated with this email.

Hi Megan,

Thanks for the fastest response ever! Lol, oh gosh, the name of it. I believe it was called "Leadership Huddle Final." It had a pink cover. I dragged a screenshot of what it looked like. It should be below. I guess that might not help, but yeah I think the name was "Leadership Huddle Final."

Hey Julie, I was not able to find any documents under that name. If you downloaded your document as a PDF and did not edit the name, it should have the same name that would be in our database, as long as it was not deleted. The only way it could have totally disappeared is if it was deleted and placed in the trash, which is automatically emptied after seven days. Let me know if you know of any other emails or document titles that could have been associated with your project!

Hm, that's very strange. I would have never deleted it. Can you try the following, please:

Leadership Curriculum
Leadership Curriculum-4
Leadership Curriculum-9

I looked through my downloads and those are more possibilities. Those are names downloaded straight from LucidPress.

I spent a few hours today on a document I now cannot find. I started with a template "school band", and first did "make a copy", renaming it before replacing all the text and images and changing a lot of formatting. I clicked "save" when I was done, Dow loaded it as a PDF and emailed that and the "share" link to others. Now, the link I emailed out just opens the original "school band" template, with NONE of my edits, and that's all that's in My Documents too. WHERE DID MY DOCUMENT GO?!?!?

Hi Megan.  Karsten tried to help, but none of her suggestions worked and she hasn't replied to my follow up.  Here's the thread:

Hello, thanks for trying to help me here.  Unfortunately, NONE of those worked:

1) The document is still in my Documents only as the original template.

2) I never log in other than clicking the "sign in with Google", and this is the only Gmail account I ever use.

3) I see the document with the new title I gave it yesterday "FLD . . . " in my browser's history from yesterday.  When I click on that, it opens the same original, untouched "School Band" template (with none of my edits).  Closing that, my browser history is now changed, and the page title has been changed from my title "FLD . . ." to "School Band".

4) Checking the revision history, there are just 3 dots, including yesterday when I was working on it.  But all 3 dots are still the exact same untouched "School Band" template, with none of my edits.

Any other possibilities?

Hi Fred,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about any trouble, but I'm here to help.

If your work is still lost, there are a few things you can do:

  1. The document might be there now, but for some reason didn't show up when you last looked. Can you double check to ensure the documents aren't there?
  2. You may have logged into the wrong account, possibly by using single sign on while signed into a different email account. I suggest that you make sure you've checked any and all Lucidpress accounts that might be under your email address(es).
  3. Your documents might be hiding in your browser history. If you carefully look through your browser history when you last worked on the document, you might be able to find it. Simply click on the name of the document in your history and it should be restored to your account.
  4. If your docs are still there, but not updated with your latest work, you can check the revision history. Click here for instructions on how to access this.

Please let me know if none of these options work.

Regards,

Karsten

I found my document but all of my stuff that I wrote on it disappeared.

Do they just delete automatically after a year or something?

Cuz now I need it and I can't find the information on it anymore

Hello Ivy, work on your document will not disappear if you do not open your document. Are you sure you were on a reliable internet connection the last time you made edits? That is sometimes the cause of lost work.

Hey Clarissa, I am not seeing this document in your account. Is there a chance that you are logged into a different account associated with a different email? If not, do you have the link to the document anywhere in your browser history? Clicking on the link will restore it to your account. If this doesn't restore your document, please let us know.
