Blurb and Lucidpress

Blurb is a self-publishing platform that allows users to publish photo books, memoirs, cook books, magazines, ebooks, and anything else that they designed for print or online viewing. You can learn more about Blurb here. To make sure that your Lucidpress document loads properly into Blurb, there are a couple of steps that you will need to take.

For a document to print well with Blurb, it needs to have a bleed of ⅛ inch on all of the non-binding sides of the document. To do this, you first want to ensure that you have spreads turned on. You can turn spreads on by going into the document settings in the context pane. Once spreads are turned on, you can then apply a ⅛ inch bleed to your document, also in the context pane. You will need to export your PDF with specific settings in place to avoid getting a “Fonts not embedded” error message. Follow these steps to download a PDF that is Blurb compatible:

Click the blue “Download” button in the top-right corner of the editor.

Select these download settings:

  • Set Format to “PDF” Select “All” Pages
  • Make sure that “Download as Spreads” is NOT selected
  • Choose “300 dpi Print” Resolution
  • Make sure that “Crop Marks” and “Bleed Marks” are NOT selected
  • Select “Print-friendly PDF”

Click download.

Your PDF is now ready to upload into Blurb.
